The "Blloku" of Tirana what is its history?
Tirana's "Blloku" is also known as Ish-Blloku or Block (First Block). During the Communist regime it was the neighborhood inhabited by the dictator Enver Hoxha and his faithful collaborators. The whole neighborhood was surrounded by a security cordon and access was allowed only to residents. While a small circle of collaborators lived in ease and modernity, the rest of the city and the country suffered from the deprivations of communism and the economic crisis caused by isolationism.
At the fall of the regime, the neighborhood was given back to the citizens who found beautiful modern villas and buildings there. Most of the villas were converted into rooms with music, alcohol and good food.
Since then, the whole neighborhood has become the cultural center of Albania. It is here that new fashions are born and that Albanian culture is contaminated by all the other cultures in the world.
The "boat generation"
The "Blloku" of Tirana is the place where new ideas are concentrated, where new trends arrive and where new cultures arriving from Europe and the world are experienced.
All the Albanian boys of the "boat generation" began who arrived in Italy on board makeshift boats in the 90s and who grew up working and studying. Many of them have returned to Albania and found their ideal habitat in Blloku in Tirana. One of these is a close friend of ours, the owner of the Kolonial Bar one of Blloku's best cocktail bars.
His story begins with the crossing of the Otranto canal by dinghy, continues with the years spent in Milan to work in the bars of "Milano da Bere" going from "glass washer" to partner owner of several of the best clubs in the canals. It ends with his return to Tirana and with the opening of what is one of the landmarks of the capital's nightlife.

What can you expect from an evening spent visiting Tirana's Blloku in 2020? Of everything!
Tirana's Blloku is ordered in regular square blocks. The density of night clubs, cocktail's bars, live clubs, music bars and discos is impressive. They follow each other for whole blocks.
We go from live clubs where we play jazz to dance halls where we dance Latin American music and from discos to fine restaurants and wine bars.
You can spend a whole month in Tirana and you wouldn't have time to visit all the places in Blloku.
